Shop Jon Fischer

Jon Fischer’s screen-print based works combine painting, drawing, and darkroom photography. In this series, chain link fences both cast a grid and form a barrier.

BIO

Jon Fischer was raised in Pennsylvania by Israeli parents from Morocco and France. He earned degrees in bio-engineering and philosophy of science before learning to screen print with a garden hose and a sixty-watt light bulb at CELLspace, the legendary San Francisco arts collective. His screen print based works have been exhibited across the country including Vanderbilt University, White Stone Gallery, The Haggin Museum, and San Francisco City Hall. Since 2016, Fischer has collaborated with composer Danny Clay on Turntable Drawings, an ongoing project that combines live music with a wide-ranging collection of playable, handmade records. Fischer currently holds an appointment as Associate Professor of Engineering Technology at the California State University Maritime Academy.

ARTIST STATEMENT

My process removes information from original sources and reconstructs them with new physical properties. Combining elements of printmaking, drawing, painting, and photography, I use process as a force of nature, breaking down, reconstituting, and repeating pictures, topographies, and sounds from many points along the course of a history that is definitely personal and possibly infinite.
